Forgetful, quiet, contemplative: What we experienced during the Corona epidemic?

Have you been distracted, forgetful since quarantine? Are you forgetful enough to use a lost item tracker or panic alarm keychain? There is a reason for this, according to neurologists.

If you do not work in a profession that maintains the system and you do not have children to look after during homeschooling, you have probably had less work to do than ever in recent months. While some people enjoy it, for others it is extremely boring. Not having a situation we could choose ourselves also made things more difficult.

But the real question is: Why are we so tired and having difficulty focusing despite working less? And why are we wandering around the house completely distracted and forgetful and we no longer know what we want to do?

Why have we been so disorganized and unfocused since the corona crisis?

Mental functions (direction of attention, language, memory) are strongly affected by psychological state. Stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia all affect the performance of the brain. In psychologically stressful situations, so-called "dysfunctional behaviors" occur in everyday life - for example, many people change their sleep habits, drink more alcohol, play more video games, etc. These impairments then lead to these cognitive impairments.

The amount of consciously controlled information we can process is limited. This means: if I let my head free, if I am awake and motivated, if I can focus my attention ("if I can think about it), then I can work perfectly. But if the head is preoccupied with other things, e.g. fearful content or sad thoughts, my mental abilities as a result. These things happening in parallel take away the capacity I need for concentration. The brain's performance in a stressful situation is often limited.

Every Change In Life Affects Our Brain

Is this happening unconsciously?

Corona crisis concerns us more than we think. Defense mechanisms and pressure mechanisms are also at work here. People get their well-being and self-esteem from resources - a job that needs recognition of someone, friends who value someone, a working partnership, physical well-being - those resources that built us have been lost by many people in quarantine. Some allow the emotions that result from this, while others do not. This stamina is definitely different. But everything that changes also changes our cognition and our ability to concentrate. Any change in the situation affects us and our brain. Our brains are busy with hundreds of impressions at once - information has become MORE. Most of the energy in our brains go to these new process controls. That's why we have less capacity.

We have less to do and still overburdened?

Many processes in the brain deal with the situation. Much more happens to people who experience anxiety and depression. It is more difficult to turn it off and concentrate less on what you need to do. But even in healthy people, other processes are happening in the brain that affects them right now.

Most people sleep more than usual but still feel tired

Sleep time has nothing to do with quality. The waking-sleep rhythm is linked to daily activities. According to statistics, there are more accidents around the world on Mondays than on Fridays, for example, because sleep behavior changes over the weekend. If the daily activity behavior in quarantine changes, of course, our sleep and therefore our circadian rhythm, which is synchronized with our hormone metabolism and also affects the immune system. Physical activity improves sleep quality. Therefore, it will be important to keep this in the quarantine period.

How can we get our brains used to normal again?

Healthy behavioral strategies such as physical activity must be strictly maintained. Many people have gone through a series of crises in their lives and know how best to deal with them - these are strategies to be used. Sleep-wake hours should be in a routine. Care must be taken to maintain social relationships. It is also important to appeal to your feelings and not keep them to yourself.

What can we do in this period not to lose and forget our belongings?

Using the lost item tracker, which we mentioned at the beginning of our article, will help you to lose your small items such as keys, wallets, bags, or pets.

Generally, if you keep your items in a single bag, you can easily connect and find the lost item tracker in your bag from the app you installed on your phone.
